Toronto WordPress Website Design

Toronto WordPress website design for organizations that need the design and the build done properly. I design your site and I build it myself, so what your team approves in the mockup is exactly what goes live.

Why Website Redesigns Disappoint Enterprise Teams

Most redesigns fail for predictable reasons. These are the three I see most often, and how I avoid each one.

A Bought Template With a New Logo

A marketplace theme looks fine in the demo, then bends your content to fit its layout. I design custom layouts for your brand, starting from your content and your audiences.

A Design That Ignores Your Approval Process

Legal, IT security and accessibility reviews can stall a design that never planned for them. With 20+ years in development and IT, 16+ of them in enterprise IT, I design with those reviews in mind from the first sketch.

A New Look on Top of a Weak Build

A fresh design on an unsound build inherits every problem underneath. When you already have a site, I audit it first and take it over only if the build quality is sound. If it is not, I say so and quote a proper rebuild.

How a Design Project Runs

1

Free Scoping Call

A conversation about your goals, your audiences, your current site and your internal approvals. It ends with an honest view of whether I am the right fit.

Design and Sign-Off

Your stakeholders review each round of designs and request changes while they are still drawings. Development starts only when the screens and the specification are signed off.

Build on Staging

I build the site on staging, where your team can review real pages in a browser. Feedback happens there, never on the live site.

Launch and Handover

Launch is planned around your IT team's release process. The handover materials are delivered at the same time.

What My Toronto WordPress Website Design Covers

Discovery and Brand Direction

I start with your brand guidelines, your audiences and the pages that carry the business. The design direction is agreed with your team before a single layout is drawn.

Wireframes and Mockups in Your Real Content

Placeholder text hides the long headline, the crowded table and the French version of a page. I design with your actual content, so layout problems surface before development starts.

A Design System, Not a Pile of Pages

Colours, type scale, spacing and components are defined once and reused everywhere. New pages stay consistent because they are assembled from the same parts.

Responsive Layouts for Every Screen

Each key template is designed for phones, tablets and wide desktop screens, not shrunk from a desktop file. Your audience gets a deliberate layout on whatever device they use.

Accessible Colour and Typography

Contrast, type sizes, focus states and reading order are set at the design stage, where they cost least to get right. The result is AODA / WCAG Compliant from the first mockup.

Editor-Friendly Custom Blocks

Your marketing team publishes with custom blocks designed for your content types. They can build new pages that match the design without asking a developer to repair the layout afterwards.

What You Get

Signed-Off Mockups for Every Key Template

Home, landing, article, listing and form pages are designed and approved before the build begins. Your stakeholders review real screens, not descriptions of them.

A Written Specification Before Any Code

Templates, blocks, content types and integrations are written down and agreed. Scope questions are settled on paper, where changes are cheap.

A Custom WordPress Build

The approved design becomes a custom WordPress theme. How that build is done is covered on my custom WordPress theme development page.

The Design System, Handed Over

You receive the colour and type tokens, component rules and usage notes. An in-house designer or a future agency can extend the site without guessing.

Documentation Another Developer Could Use

The documentation is complete enough that another developer could take over. You are not dependent on me to keep the site running.

Optional Care After Launch

Maintenance and management are available as recurring services with a 6-Month Minimum Commitment. The design and build project itself is scoped and priced on its own.

Enterprise Results: What Happens When the Stakes Are Real

Several Brands Under One Roof

Rogers / Sportsnet / Chatelaine and Great-West Life / Lifeco, with Canada Life and London Life, each run several brands inside one organization. That is where a shared design system earns its keep.

Each brand keeps its own identity while the components underneath stay common. The work for these clients is in my portfolio.

A Platform That Passed Munich Re Security Testing

For Munich Re, their IT security team ran penetration tests and automated security scans on the platform before deployment. It passed.

Design choices such as forms, embeds and third-party scripts all end up in front of reviewers like these. I make those choices knowing they will be tested.

Bilingual Government Work in Ontario

Public Ontario government sites have to work in English and French. I have delivered that work for the Ministry of Education Ontario, including the Employment Ontario Portal.

A layout that only fits the English text is not finished. I design every template to hold up in both languages.

Credentials You Can Check

I am the author of WordPress Responsive Theme Design Essentials (Packt) and a technical reviewer of Learning Yeoman. I was a WordCamp Toronto co-organizer in 2014 and 2015 and lead organizer in 2016.

WP Engine is also among the clients I have delivered work for. Each of these can be verified independently.
